3 Best Projector Screens for Home Theater

You’ve done the research and found the perfect projector for your home theater. But have you found a screen that’s worthy of your projector?

To save you the trouble of spending hours on research, I’ve carefully selected the top-performing projector screens, which in my opinion, offer great value for money.

While there are plenty of projector screens in the market, all do not perform equally. Some might bring in an unwanted tint to your picture, while others don’t give you much value for money.

If you want to get the most out of your home theater experience, you’ll need to be picky about the screen you choose. After all, you’ve spent all that money on your gear. You wouldn’t want something to detract from your movie experience, now would you?

1. Vamvo M2100 (Best Budget Projector Screen)

What I like about the Vamvo 100-inch portable projector screen

• Value for money

The Vamvo 100-inch portable projector screen has all the basic features you would need and comes with a large 100-inch 16:9 screen.

The screen, made of wrinkle-free polyester, is sturdy and gives you a pretty good image quality- definitely an upgrade from a white sheet or wall. It also comes with an aluminum tripod stand which is rust-free and lightweight. 

The viewing angle is wide at 160 degrees, which is impressive for the price.

(The viewing angle of a projector screen refers to the maximum angle at which you can watch the projected image clearly without the quality coming down.)

Having a wide viewing angle means you can view the image accurately from multiple positions. So it’s not only those sitting facing the center of the screen who will view a clear image, but others sitting beside them as well.

• Versatile

I like the flexibility it offers. Since it’s portable, you can use it both outdoors and indoors. You even have the option to project the image either from the front or the rear.

• Easy and convenient

Setting it up is a piece of cake, you don’t really require any tools to assemble it. 

Folding and putting it away is easy. It’s compact and fits snugly in the carrying bag provided giving you the freedom to cart it along with you whenever you fancy an outdoor movie night.

What I don’t like about the Vamvo 100-inch portable projector screen

• The picture can appear washed out in rooms with more ambient light. You might need to make your home theater room darker with some blackout curtains to compensate for this.

• The tripod is flimsy and can tip over even with the slightest breeze. You’ll need to find some way to weigh down the stand. 

Other Alternatives

If you’re looking for something even cheaper than the Vamvo portable projector screen, you can opt for the Mdebebbron 120-inch projector screen. (Amazon link) 

However, what you should know is that it’s more complicated to set up and doesn’t come with a stand or a frame. If you factor in this cost, you might prefer to buy the Vamvo projector screen instead. 

2. Silver Ticket STR-169100 (Best Mid Range)

You don’t have to shell out a bundle to get this high-quality projector screen. The Silver Ticket STR-169100 offers amazing value for money, and it looks fantastic too!

This 16:9 screen is a fixed-frame design with white stretchy, vinyl and a 1.1 gain.

What I like about the 100-inch Silver Ticket projector screen

• Great image quality  

The image projected on this screen will definitely do your projector some justice. Colors are vivid and accurate and you’ll get good contrast and detail for a Full HD image. 

Many budget projector screens (and some not-so-cheap ones too) can suffer from a bit of a tint. However, in this one, it is barely noticeable.

Hotspots are not a problem either. ( a hotspot is a very bright circle of light around one area of the screen)

• Easy to install   

The  STR 169100 projector screen is fairly straightforward to install, with instructions that are easy to follow. 

You start by assembling the frame and then preparing the screen. The screen uses a tension rod system, where you slide the rod through a pocket in the material along the edge of the screen.

Once this is done, you can then easily attach the screen to the frame and hang it up on the wall like a large picture frame.

This projector screen can be fixed on most wall types. Here’s an easy-to-follow step-by-step video on how to assemble and install it. 

• Attractive design with a sturdy build 

The STR 169100 may cost less but it sure doesn’t look cheap. With an aluminum frame wrapped neatly in a velvet border, this screen will look attractive in your living room/home theater room.

The velvet frame also works to absorb the light. It provides contrast and a clean border between the image and the wall behind the screen.

The tension rod system helps to keep the screen taut and free of wrinkles. Another nice detail-  these rods are neatly concealed behind the frame. 

What I don’t like about the 100-inch Silver Ticket projector screen

• Some users have complained of a slight gap between the wall and the screen.

Other Alternatives

Depending on your specific requirements, Silver Ticket offers screens made from different materials and comes in different sizes (although the costs go up as the screen size increases. )

Another good option is the Elite Screens SableFrame2 Series (Amazon link), however, this is more expensive than Silver Ticket and is not as easy to install.

3. Elite Screens Evanesce B (Best High-End Projector Screen)

If you’re looking for a minimalistic setup without compromising on picture quality, you can spend a little more and invest in a premium in-ceiling projector screen such as the Elite Screens Evanesce B.

What I like about Elite Screens Evanesce B

• Super neat recessed ceiling design that gives you scope to opt for a bigger screen size

What’s cool about the Elite Screens Evanesce B is that it can be permanently fixed to your home theater/living room and can stay out of sight when you don’t need it. 

Since it’s beautifully concealed when not in use, you have the freedom to opt for a bigger screen for a larger-than-life home theater experience. 

It works out to be a great solution for those who don’t have a dedicated home theater room or have other gear in their media room. 

• User Friendly

Operating it is simple, thanks to its electric motor and two remote controls (IR and RF). It’s easy to maintain as well, you can simply clean it with mild soap and water.

• High-quality build and superb image

The Maxwhite Fibreglass screen of Evanesce B, which comes with black backing for added stiffness, ensures that the screen is taut and wrinkle-free.

The material used is durable and long-lasting and comes with an aluminum casing that protects and conceals it when not in use.

With a gain of 1.1, the projected image is bright and detailed. The black-wrapped borders enhance the good contrast. 

The viewing angle is comfortable at 180 degrees. It is also 4K and 3D-ready. 

What I don’t like about Elite Screens Evanesce B

• Not so easy to set up
• Expensive
• Only available for in-ceiling installations.

Note- This model is only compatible with standard throw projectors and not ultra-short or short throw projectors. If you have either of these, you can opt for the Tab-tension-B series (Amazon link)of the Evanesce B which is compatible with both short/ultra-short throw as well as standard throw projectors. 

Other Alternatives

If you don’t fancy an in-ceiling screen, another good alternative is the Elite Screens Yardmaster Plus (Amazon link). This is a high-quality portable screen that can be used both indoors and outdoors.

The Evanesce B comes in different price ranges, including premium luxury screens in the range of $3000-$4000. Of course, if money is no object, you can opt for the custom-made Stewart projection screens.

Final thoughts 

Even if you’ve bought a great projector, choose the wrong screen and you might end up ruining your picture. 

That’s why I’ve recommended user-friendly projector screens that are reliable and give you a superb picture for the price.
